Why Liberals are Bad for America

There are so many reasons why liberal Democrats are the wrong group to be in charge of Congress.

  1. Liberals feel a need to constantly bash the United States.
  2. Liberals focus more on vilifying the Republican party than accomplishing anything else.(case in point - the relentless Congressional investigations of various Republican actions, such as the firing of several U.S. attorneys)
  3. Liberals want to dump astronomical amounts of money into various social welfare programs that are ineffective and particularly susceptible to fraud, abuse and corruption.
  4. Liberals cannot seem to wrap their heads around the idea that the entire Social Security program, as well as Medicare, is headed for bankruptcy and places an unfair burden on the younger, working generation.
  5. Liberals seem to subscribe to the idea that more taxes - especially more taxes for the wealthy - is economically beneficial to the country. In other words, liberals believe in taxing heavily people for being economically productive.
  6. Liberals are intent on being politically correct - never saying anything against minorities - while saying things that are very offensive to Christians and conservatives.

And this is only a short list off the top of my head. Do you all have any more reasons why liberals should not be in charge? Or do any liberals want to rebut these charges?

Thanks for your thoughts, especially on Social Security. It seems to me that it would help the solvency issue to raise the retirement age again. I don't know how much it would have to be raised to make it a solvent plan, but it sure seems like the thing to do. I hope steps are taken to make Social Security solvent especially for my children.

I completely agree that the SS age should be raised. When FDR established SS in the 1930s, few people lived past their sixties. Thus, it was much less of a financial burden to support those senior citizens with SS. But now, with so many living well past their sixties, it has become an extreme financial burden as the government is now expected to support people with SS for as many as 30 years! By raising the retirement age, the financial burden would be greatly lessened.

A good list, but you did leave out the globalization of America. It is the goal of Democrats to exchange American law for global law already adapted by (mostly) the EU.

I don't think raising the age is the answer. Putting limits on who draws from it would greatly help.

For example, if some non-American comes over on a work visa and works just 10 years, then goes back to their country of origin, American tax payers will have to pay that person SS until they die.

It's even worse - if that same person claims they've become disabled American tax payers will be sending that person a check a month no matter what age they are.

Just wait until American taxpayers have 15-20 Million illegals that suddenly get put on the SS train, to "compensate" for all the hard work they've done here. Yeah, right.

I think if normal retirement age was raised in steps from 67 to 70 that Social Security would be a lot closer to being a viable program. I was happy that the immigration bill was defeated. I don't believe it would have been revenue neutral on Social Security as it was promoted. However, if you want to solve the solvency issue with Social Security, I think you have to look at raising retirement age.

I think in many cases if people are able to work longer they will be better off in a number of ways. Work keeps your body and mind active and challenged, and I think this is good for many people.

I don't have a problem if people want to retire early and have the money to live their life the way they want. I just don't think Social Security is designed to support people at the levels it currently does for all people 65-67 and over.

I am an intelligent Liberal and I find your analysis of Liberals to be myopic and offensive. Let me tackle your weak arguments one at a time:
You start off by saying that liberal Democrats are the wrong group to be in charge of Congress. You seem to forget that the majority of Americans woke up from the hang-over of the last 8 years of mostly Republican rule under George W. Bush. The only reason the Country didn’t get a clue earlier is because the fear-mongering that Bush-Cheney pulled just before the 2004 election. (Not to mention the B.S. in the 2000 election in Florida)
1. Liberals do not feel a need to constantly bash the United States. I and many of my friends are proud to be Americans, even if we weren’t proud of the past President and his minions. There are extremists on both sides and making a general statement that Liberals as a whole are un-patriotic is as stupid a statement as Ann Coulter would make. This blog isn’t written by Ann Coulter is it???
2. There are some Liberal Democrats that do feel the need to vilify and Bash Republicans over stupid things as Gitmo and the Attorney General firings. However, once again I must point to the whole Monica Lewinsky waste of $55 Million by the Republican congress out to get Clinton to show that both sides engage in such pettiness. Although to the credit of the Democrats they wouldn't waste that much money on something so trivial and stupid.
3. As far as Liberals dumping astronomical amounts of money into social welfare programs that are ineffective and subject to fraud, abuse and corruption: Can I remind you of the TARP program and the AIG bailout initiated by your Republican President George W. Bush??? No only have we spent 2 Trillion Dollars to date, but we are likely going to have to spend an additional 2 Trillion Dollars before it is over. With the heads of AIG and the Banks writing themselves huge bonuses for failing-all to be billed to you and I the taxpayers. Remember what Leona Helmsley said, “Only the little people pay taxes!”
4. Liberals can’t come to grips with the fact that Social Security and Medicare are headed for bankruptcy, to the burden of the future generations: While this is true, to not have some social structure for our seniors and disabled people is un-American. In fact, if not for the horrendous spending of George W. Bush and the Congressional Republicans we would have Trillions of dollars to fix these programs with. Remember that when Clinton left office we had a National Debt of $2 Trillion Dollars. Now it is estimated between $8 Trillion to $10 Trillion due to enormous outlays in Iraq and on Defense coupled with tax cuts for the rich. These programs would be fine if not for that. Additionally, what about Bush spending over $1 Billion Dollars on abstinence programs that resulted in the U.S. having the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the whole world. (Yes, higher than China and India!!!) Even Bristol Palin, who should know being a teenage mother said recently that such programs are “unrealistic” and you love her Mom "you betcha!".
5. Liberals believe in taxing rich people for being economically productive. This is complete hogwash! Once again, you need to check out your facts and see that George W. Bush and the Congressional Republicans gave the Richest of the Rich Americans huge tax breaks for the last 8 years. President Obama and his people only want to reinstate the same tax structure as was in place during the Clinton years when this Country enjoyed unprecedented levels of prosperity. Why were people still economically productive then with equal taxes to all and not now when the richest don’t pay their fair share. Must I also remind you that many of these rich people are the same ones that screwed up the economy with deregulation and corruption. Also, they are the ones at the Banks, Wall Street and AIG stepping up for their bonuses for making the country bankrupt. To which the Republicans are only too happy to see them profit off of you and I the taxpayer. It simply does not make sense to any rational human being!!!
6. Liberals don’t say anything offensive about minorities, but they do attack the Christians and conservatives. This too is untrue, Liberals do not attack minorities because that is the base for the Democratic party. The only thing that Liberals attack Christians and conservatives about are due to one of the most basic pillars of our system. That is, the separation between church and state. Liberals do not have a problem with anyone’s belief and spirituality. The problem they have is when others try to force it down their throat, with prayer in the school, abstinence programs and intelligent design as an alternative to evolution. You
can teach your kids whatever preposterous belief structure you have in your own home, why do you feel the need to push it on everyone. Especially those of us that are happy and content with opposite beliefs? This is the biggest problem that is facing the Republican party, that they have given in too much to the evangelical Christians and therefore have lost the independent voters. The people that are neither Republicans or Democrats decide every election and by digging in to extremist views, you and your party are going to fade away like the Whig party did many years ago. It is a shame, because I believe in a lot of fundamental Republican principles like, small Federal Government with large State Government and Anti-tax stances, but it seems that recently the GOP wants to tell everyone how to live their lives, which is opposite to their core values.

So put that in your pipe and smoke it! Thank God the Democrats are in charge now, I just hope it isn’t too late to save our Country from the hole that George W. Bush got us into!

I facepalmed at every one of your "reasons". You can't genuinely look at what you wrote whilst properly informed and educated and think, "Yep, this makes perfect sense". There's no way.

THANK YOU for posting this article, but I'm saddened by the thought that no matter how many true facts we throw out there, liberals are generally too stubborn to even consider they might be wrong. What a shame.
